Synopsis of Minutes 

Present: Shannon Leson, Chairperson; Nancy Kirk; Dustin Hall; Jeff Weafer; Lyle Burkell; Agnes Ewen; Eleanor Shumay; Denny Huyghebaert, Deputy Superintendent of Funeral & Cremation Services; Sandy Mahon, Registrar

Present by teleconference: Gloria Malinoski, Vice-Chairperson; Robert Volk

Council was advised five complaints have been received to date, three of which have been concluded and two have been referred to investigation committees.  Council was further advised that nineteen compliance reviews have been conducted to date.

The 2018 death statistics were shared with Council:

  • Burial – 3162
  • Cremation – 6518 – 67%
  • Other – 5
  • Unknown – 1

A motion was passed for the Legislative & Governance Committee to conduct a feasibility study for photo identification for all licensees.

A motion was passed to approve the January 2019 Revenue & Expense Reports as presented.

A further motion was passed to approve the 2018 AON Extrapolation of the Assurance Fund as presented.

A motion was passed to refer the recommendation from the Education & Professional Development Committee to amend bylaw 2014 (4) to read “Repeating a course prior to five years shall not qualify for additional credits” to the Legislative & Governance Committee for review.

A motion was passed to appoint Dustin Hall & Gloria Malinoski as the 2019 Nominating Committee.

Council was advised that Chrystal Armstrong gained employment with the Saskatchewan Government and had resigned from Council due to potential conflict of interest.

The next meeting of Council will be held April 25th, 2019.
