Synopsis of Minutes

Present:  Raymond Bailey, Chairperson; Lisa Bos; Nancy Kirk; Eleanor Shumay; Denny Huyghebaert, Deputy Superintendent of Funeral & Cremation Services; Sandy Mahon, Registrar

Present by teleconference:  Gloria Malinoski; Agnes Ewen; Robert Volk; Chrystal Armstrong; Jeff Weafer

Council was advised no complaints have been received since the last meeting of Council.  Ten compliance reviews have been conducted to date in 2017.

Council was advised the following licenses were renewed for 2017:

  • 225 Embalmer
  • 315 Funeral Director
  • 32 Salesperson
  • 118 Funeral Home
  • 23 Crematorium
  • 3 Transfer Services
  • 30 licenses were not renewed
    • 3 licensees did not renew their Embalmers license but still hold a Funeral Director/Salesperson license
  • 1 Funeral Home license was not renewed

In Saskatchewan there were 9382 deaths in 2016 of which 5927 resulted in cremation.  The cremation rate now stands at 63%.

A motion was passed to approve the November 2016 Revenue & Expense Reports as presented and a further motion was passed to approve the 2017 budget as presented.

A motion was passed to approve the AON Hewitt 2015 Extrapolation of the Assurance Fund as presented.

The next meeting will be held on March 9, 2017.
