Synopsis of Minutes
Present: Phil Fredette, Chairperson; Jeff Ofstie, Vice-Chairperson; Raymond Bailey; David Grambo; Nancy Kirk; Robert Volk; Todd Lumbard; Agnes Ewen; Eleanor Shumay; Shannon Leson; Larry Wilson, Superintendent of Funeral & Cremation Services; Sandy Mahon, Registrar; Peter Anctil, Resource & Compliance Officer; Kim Stewart, Administrative Assistant

The Registrar had reported that there had been no new complaints since the last meeting of Council. Forty-five compliance reviews and 3 trust compliance reviews have been conducted to date.
A motion was passed to publish Advisory 21 – Funeral Homes and The Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act, subject to ratification by Legal Counsel.
A motion was passed to appoint an Investigation Committee for Council file #2014-06, consisting of Earl Mosewich, Chairperson; Gerry Mitchell, Licensee; and Art Hunter, Consumer.
Council was advised there were 9557 deaths in 2013 of which 5646 (59%) dispositions were by cremation.
A motion was passed to approve the March 2014 Revenue & Expense reports as presented.
Raymond Bailey gave an update on the recent SIAST Advisory Committee meeting.
Two requests for a waiver of late fee penalties were reviewed. In one case, due to the circumstances a motion was passed to waive the late fee penalty and in the other case Council did not waive the late fee penalty. Any member of Council who felt in conflict recused themselves from the discussions.
The next meeting of Council is the Special Meeting of Council on May 8, 2014 after the Annual General Meeting, followed by the Regular meeting of Council on Thursday, June 26, 20-14.
