Synopsis of Minutes
Phil Fredette, Chairperson; Jeff Ofstie, Vice-Chairperson; Nancy Kirk; Robert Volk; David Grambo; Todd Lumbard; Agnes Ewen; Eleanor Shumay; Shannon Leson; Larry Wilson, Superintendent of Funeral and Cremation Services; Sandy Mahon, Registrar
9:30 a.m. – Brad Klein, Purple Shield; Matt McGuire, Assurant Life; Fernand Leblanc by teleconference
Following a presentation from representatives from Assurant/Purple Shield a motion was passed to appoint the Registrar, Robert Volk, and David Grambo to a sub-committee to research the implications of cancelling trusts and transferring proceeds to insurance.
Council was advised that 1 complaint has been received since the last meeting of Council and a preliminary evaluation is underway.
Council was advised the Registrar has been appointed as a Director of District 8 of the International Conference of Funeral Service Examining Boards. District 8 is comprised of Alaska, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Montana, Idaho, Washington, Oregon and Wyoming.
A motion was passed to revise the following bylaws and forms:
- 1000 – Definitions
- 2020 – Registration of Students
- 2080 – Regulatory Fees
- 6030 – Provision of Goods and Services
- 6150 – Buyer Directed Assignment
- 9000 – Schedule of Fees
- Form 1 – Annual Financial Summary Report
- Form 3 – Sales of Prepaid Contracts – Deleted
- Form 20 – Embalmer/Funeral Director Student Registration
- Form 30 – License Application for an Embalmer/Funeral Director
- Form 50B – Authorize to Cremate by Alkaline Hydrolysis
A motion was passed to approve the April 2013 Revenue & Expense Reports.
Council was advised of feedback received from the 2013 Spring Symposium and was further advised that due to a scheduling conflict with the annual FSAC convention, the dates of the 2014 Spring Symposium have been changed to Thursday, May 8th and Friday, May 9th, 2014 in Saskatoon.
Motions were passed to appoint members of Council to the following Committees:
- Eleanor Shumay – Legislative & Governance Committee
- Shannon Leson & Agnes Ewen – Communications Committee
- Nancy Kirk – Audit/Finance Committee
The next meeting of Council will be held on Thursday, September 19, 2013.
